SAS Programs

Keeping the SAS vibes but making it virtual:

In the planning of SAS Virtual Sessions it has been important to me to stay connected to the core values or Studio Art Sessions.

Accessibility: SAS believes art education should be accessible. We use real studio art materials, real studio art processes but in a way that allows everyone to engage. For too many people art has been something that "they can't do" because that is what someone told them a long time ago, or they've been intimidating by the pressure to make something look like something. SAS is not about that! Art is for everyone.

Community: SAS believes art education builds and strengthens communities. Art allows us to feel empowered, to share our messages in different ways and to recognize the humanity in others.

Connection: Making art allows us to connect with our own self and with others in a meaningful way. Virtual sessions will be kept small in order to foster better connection between us all. As a guest on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples–Skwxwú7mesh-ulh Temíx̱w (Squamish), S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō), Səl̓ilwətaɁɬ təməxʷ(Tsleil-Waututh), Stz’uminus and šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmaɁɬ təməxʷ (Musqueam) Nations I strive to honour and pay respect to the land, the water, the animals and the indigenous people working to protect them.
